Obituary for Sonny McNeil Jr.
Melvin ‘Sonny’ McNeil, Jr., 78, of Abbeville, husband of Delores Pressley McNeil, died Tuesday, January 11, 2022, at his residence. He was born in Abbeville to the late Melvin, Sr. and Frances ‘Polly’ Giles McNeil.
Proud father, ‘Da’, and husband, Sonny graduated from Abbeville High School in 1962 and retired from CSX Railroad with 34 years of dedicated service. A lifelong cattle farmer, one of Sonny’s favorite pastimes was “riding through” his cows. His greatest pleasure was time spent with his children and grandchildren.
Sonny is survived by his wife of 57 years, Delores McNeil, of the home; children, Scott McNeil (Patti), Sherry Davenport (Greg) and Todd McNeil (Tina); brother, Bill McNeil (Alice); twelve grandchildren, Meagan Garland (Jeremy), Caleb, Jacob, Matthew and Luke McNeil, Kalee Urban (Terrance), Alex Davenport, Kristin Davenport, Coby McNeil (Alee), Braden McNeil (Savannah Jo), Carter McNeil, and Carrie Beth Fellows (Dylan); and four great-grandchildren, Jake and Ben Garland, Elias Fellows and Emery Urban.
Graveside services will be 2:00 PM, Thursday, January 13, 2022, in Bells United Methodist Church Cemetery with Rev. Reiny Koschel and Mr. Billy Stoll officiating. The family will receive friends following the service.
Memorial contributions, in memory of Sonny, may be sent to Agape Care of South Carolina, 326 Montague Ave., Greenwood, SC 29649.
