Obituary for Samuel W Smith
Samuel Whitley ‘Sam’ Smith, 68, of Donalds , SC, husband of Katherine Gailey Smith, died Sunday, August 14, 2022 at his residence. He was born in Augusta, GA to the late Harris Page Smith and Nell Whitley Smith.
Sam, a graduate of Easley High School, attended Gardener Webb College. An employee of General Electric, he retired with 26 years of dedicated service. He considered himself a steward of the land. Sam enjoyed farming, bee keeping and rescuing animals. His love for animals often overshadowed his love for people.
Sam is survived by his wife of 24 years, Katherine; brother, Hugh Smith of Fountain Inn, SC; two sisters, Susan Elsken of Augusta, GA and Phyllis Sams (Robert) of Easley, SC; and fourteen nieces and nephews and sixteen great-nieces and nephews.
A private celebration will be held at a later date.
Memorial contributions, in memory of Sam, may be sent to the Humane Society of one’s choice.
