Obituary for Mary Taylor Dixon (Radford)

Mary Taylor Dixon, 77, of Abbeville, died Saturday, December 17, 2022, at the Abbeville Area Medical Center. Born in Roanoke, VA to the late E.L. and Nylic Rowe Radford, she was one of fourteen children. Mrs. Dixon was many things to many people throughout her life, but she’d want to be remembered as a teacher and loving caregiver to the people, plants and animals close to her.

A 1997 graduate of Georgia State University, Mrs. Dixon also received her Master’s degree from the University of Georgia. She founded the Abbeville Squared Facebook Group, whose purpose is to promote and support the Abbeville Town Square and other public spaces that have historical significance for beautification and maintenance of such areas. As a master gardener, her deep appreciation for Abbeville was evident in the care and attention given to the seasonal flowers and plants she tended throughout the square.

Mrs. Dixon was twice married, first to Jim Cofer of Snellville, GA, then to the late Charles ‘Chuck’ Dixon of Ocean Isle Beach, NC. She is survived by her two sons, Jeff Cofer (Bevin) of Johns Creek, GA and Chris Cofer (Valerie) of Knoxville, TN; two grandchildren, Emily and Julia; and one great-granddaughter, Savannah.

A memorial service will be held at a later date near Abbeville square. The family expresses their sincere gratitude to the community of Abbeville for welcoming their mom and allowing her to utilize her talents to help keep Abbeville beautiful and welcoming.

Memorial contributions, in memory of Mrs. Dixon, may be sent to the Greater Abbeville Humane Society, c/o Barbara Freese, 200 Greenville St., Abbeville, SC 29620.
