Obituary for Grace 'Mama Grace' "Smith" Hawthorne
Grace Smith ‘Mama Grace’ Hawthorne, 95, of Abbeville, wife of the late Charles William ‘Bill’ Hawthorne, Sr., died Monday, October 26, 2020 at the Abbeville Nursing Home. She was born in Greenwood to the late James P. and Ida Helms Smith.
Mama Grace was a graduate of Greenwood High School and also attended Cokesbury College. She retired from Milliken & Co. after 40 years of dedicated service. She was also a member of Grace United Methodist Church. Mama Grace’s favorite pastimes included spending time at her lake house, going on annual beach trips, and any opportunity she had to be with her family. Christmas was her favorite holiday and she loved gathering her whole family together to celebrate.
Mama Grace is survived by her children, ‘Bill Jr.’ Hawthorne (Becky) of St. George, GA, Steve Hawthorne (Kathy) of Abbeville, Susan Scott (Edward) of Elberton, GA, and Roger Hawthorne (Stacy) of Abbeville; ten grandchildren and a number of great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be held at 3:00PM, Wednesday, October 28, 2020 in Forest Lawn Memory Gardens with Rev. Jason Wilson officiating.
The family is at their respective homes.
